Report by OHCHR | February 2024

UN experts expressed deep concern over reports of severe human rights violations against Palestinian women and girls in Gaza and the West Bank. Allegations include extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detention, inhumane treatment, sexual violence, and forced disappearances, with victims including human rights defenders and children. The experts called for an independent investigation and emphasized that these acts could amount to serious international crimes. They urged Israel to ensure the protection and rights of Palestinian women and girls under international law.

We are particularly distressed by reports that Palestinian women and girls in detention have also been subjected to multiple forms of sexual assault, such as being stripped naked and searched by male Israeli army officers. At least two female Palestinian detainees were reportedly raped while others were reportedly threatened with rape and sexual violence.
